Showboat at Royal Albert Hall 10 - 25 Jun 2006
Showboat will be the first fully staged musical ever to be performed in the Royal Albert Hall, opening 10 June 2006 - running to 25 June 2006.
The show has book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and music by Jerome Kern.
Staged in the round, this new production is directed by Francesa Zambello, designed by Peter J Davidson.
Packed full of timeless classics and show-stopping hits, Show Boat is a musical treasure that, through song and dance, evokes the Deep South at the return at the turn of the century; not only its passion and flamboyance, but also its radical prejudice, poverty and abandonment. This panoramic story of romance spanning almost fifty years depicts life on the Cotton Blossom floating theatre, the Hawks family and their show boat troupe of actors.
