Simon Burke takes over the role of George in La Cage Aux Folles from 14 Sep 2009

Australian actor Simon Burke will take over the role of George in La Cage Aux Folles , at the Playhouse Theatre from 14 Sep to 28 Nov 2009

He joins previously mentioned John Barrowman, who takes over the role of Albin at the same time.

The cast currently includes Roger Allam (Albin) and Philip Quast (George)

Simon Burke has enjoyed great success both in Australia and the UK in film, television, stage, concert appearances and cabaret. He recently appeared in Andrew Bovell's new play When The Rain Stops Falling at the Almeida Theatre and as Captain von Trapp in the Sound of Music at the London Palladium.

The Menier Chocolate Factory production of La cage Aux Folles , opened at the Playhouse Theatre 30 Oct 2008, following previews from 20 Oct, to terrific notices from the popular press: THE GUARDIAN says, "A great musical." THE DAILY MAIL says, " La Cage is a belter of a night out." THE TIMES says, "Suddenly, the West End sparkles." THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "This is a glorious night of showbiz razzle-dazzle and emotional generosity."

La cage Aux Folles is directed by Terry Johnson, with choreography by Lynne Page and the musical director is Nigel Lilley. It is designed by Tim Shortall with costumes by Matthew Wright.

The idyllic existence of Georges and the dazzling drag artiste Albin, star of the La Cage aux Folles club, is threatened when Georges’ son announces his engagement to the daughter of a right-wing politician, who wants to close down the local colourful nightlife! With a visit from the prospective in-laws imminent, they all decide to take drastic action to hide their lifestyle...but can they keep it up?
