Tickets are now on sale for the West End premiere of Memphis The Musical which starts performances at the Shaftesbury Theatre from 9 Oct 2014, starring Beverley Knight.

The Tony Award winning Broadway musical is based on a concept by George W. George, and features book & lyrics by Joe DiPietro, and music & lyrics by Bon Jovi founding member David Bryan. The musical has an original score full of gospel, rhythm & blues, and early rock 'n' roll music.

"Queen of British Soul" Beverley Knight leads the cast as Felicia, after making her West End musical theatre debut in 'The Bodyguard' at the Adelphi Theatre in 2013, where she took over the role of Rachel Marron from Heather Headley.

Tickets for the production are on sale today (13 Mar) and the show opens on 23 Oct 2014 following previews from 9 Oct. It is currently booking until 28 Mar 2015.

Memphis follows the fictionalized life story of young, white radio disc jockey Huey Calhoon growing up in Memphis, Tennessee in the 1950's. An unlikely hero with a great love of the music he hears in the black bars on Beale Street, Huey's on-air antics and unstoppable enthusiasm for "race records" creates a new white audience for African-American music. His personal life transcends the race line as well, when he falls in love with a beautiful black singer - with dramatic consequences.

Memphis The Musical is directed by Christopher Ashley and features choreography by Sergio Trujillo, scenic design by David Gallo, costume design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Howell Binkley and sound design by Ken Travis.
