Back to The Future to receive West End transfer in 2020
It has been announced that Back to the Future: The Musical will receive its West End premiere in 2020.
Based on the award-winning 1985 film starring Michael J. Fox, Back to the Future follows Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett Brown who travel through time in a modified DeLorean. The film features a soundtrack including 'The Power of Love' by Huey Lewis and the News and 'Johnny B. Goode'.
The musical will open at Manchester Opera House on 20th February 2020, where it will play for a 12 week limited engagement before a West End transfer.
Details on a West End venue for Back to the Future: The Musical, as well as a performance schedule and opening date are to be announced.
Ahead of the production opening in Manchester, Christopher Lloyd who played Doc Brown in the 1985 film said: "I've been eagerly... wondering what it will be like to hear Doc Brown sing. So I'm really looking forward to attending the opening in Manchester to experience our wonderful movie as a musical."
Marty McFly will be played by Olly Dobson, whose previous West End credits include Bat Out of Hell at the Dominion Theatre and Matilda at the Cambridge Theatre. Further casting for the production is to be announced.
The creative team for Back to the Future: The Musical includes an original book by Bob Gale and music and lyrics by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard. John Rando directs, with set and costume design by Tim Hatley, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, sound by Gareth Owen, video by Finn Ross and choreography by Chris Bailey.
