Cast for Shakespeare's Globe's Antony and Cleopatra

Cast update for the Shakespeare's Globe's production of Antony and Cleopatra, by William Shakespeare, which opens 29 May 2014, following previews from 17 May. Public booking opens 10 February 2014.

Cast will include Eve Best (Cleopatra) and Phil Daniels (Enobarbus). The play is directed by Jonathan Munby.

Cleopatra, the alluring and fascinatingly ambiguous Queen of Egypt, has bewitched the great Mark Antony, soldier, campaigner and now one of the three rulers of the Roman Empire. When Antony quarrels with his fellow leaders and throws in his lot with Cleopatra, his infatuation threatens to split the Empire in two.

Eve Best has previously appeared at the Globe in 2011's Much Ado About Nothing. Other recent London stage credits include The Duchess of Malfi at the Old Vic in 2012. Her performance in the title role of Hedda Gabler at the Almeida in 2005 won her the Olivier Award for Best Actress. Eve Best also appeared in the successful film The King's Speech, as Wallis Simpson.

Phil Daniels has previously appeared at the Globe in 2011's The God of Soho. He is also known for playing the role of Kevin Wicks in BBC TV's long-running soap Eastenders. Daniels is soon to star in The Knight of the Burning Pestle as the Citizen - at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse from 20 Feb 2014.
