Initial casting has been announced the Old Vic's upcoming production of Arthur Miller's The American Clock, which is set to open at the theatre in February 2019.

Rachel Chavkin, whose production of Hadestown opens at the National Theatre tonight, directs Miller's classic about a family of three - mother Rose, father Moe and son Lee - trying to cope during the depression in 1930s America. Chavkin's production will see three sets of actors rotate the central roles every performance.

The cast for The American Clock will feature: Amber Aga, Paul Bentall, Greg Bernstein, Clare Burt, Flora Dawson, Abhin Galeya, Fred Haig, Jyuddah Jaymes, John Marquez, Francesca Mills, Taheen Modak, Christian Patterson, Golda Rosheuvel, Abdul Salis, Josie Walker and Ewan Wardrop. Further casting is set to be announced.

On the announcement of the cast, Chavkin said: "It's essential that this production captures the epic scope of Arthur's play, which includes many races and cultures and classes, not to mention different corners of the American geography.

"All the characters in the play are struggling with the shared experience of the Great Depression and I hope that by embracing the cultural specificity of each performer we will further deepen and expand the themes of the show".

The production will feature set design by Chloe Lamford, with compositions by Justin Ellington, costumes by Rosie Elnile, and choreography by Ann Yee.

The American Clock was first produced on Broadway in 1980, and opened in the Cottesloe at the National in August 2986, before transferring to the Olivier later that year. Directed by Peter Wood, the cast included Michael Bryant and Sara Kestelman.

The American Clock is at the Old Vic from 4th February.
