CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF TO CLOSE 12TH JAN 02

It has been confirmed that Cat On a Hot Tin Roof, by Tennessee Williams, will close 12th Jan 02, after a limited run 4 months.

This production is expected to transfer to Broadway with the original cast next February 02 .

Directed by Anthony Page, the show features Brendan Fraser, Frances O'Connor, Ned Beatty, Gemma Jones, Abigail McKern and Clive Carter, David Firth, Ilario Bisi-Pedro, Kenneth Jay and Valentine Hanson..

The production received great notices from the popular press when it opened in September: NICHOLAS DE JONGH for THE EVENING STANDARD said, "Cat remains, in terms of its theatrical appeal, real hot stuff." CHARLES SPENCER for THE DAILY TELEGRAPH said, "It is a mighty piece, passionate, tragic, angry, frank, deeply personal and utterly compelling". MICHAEL BILLINGTON for THE GUARDIAN said, "Rare but welcome London revival." He goes on to say, "This is a production that captures well the passion and power of the state of Tennessee." JOHN PETER for THE SUNDAY TIMES said, " The most thrilling and distinguished accounts of a modern classic the West End has seen in years."

The story is set in Big Daddys' house, where nothing is as it seems. Big Daddy is dying of cancer, though he believes he is in good health. His son Gooper and his wife greedily await their inheritance. Meanwhile, his favourite son Brick, is a drunken ex-football star whose abusiveness is destroying his marriage to the sensuous Maggie. As Maggie fights to win back her husband, Big Daddy learns the truth about his illness and the shocking secret behind Bricks behaviour....
