It has been announced that Colm Meaney will star as Big Daddy in the upcoming Young Vic revival of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof directed by Benedict Andrews, which runs at the Apollo Theatre from 13 July to 7 October 2017, with an official opening on 24 July.

Meaney will join the previously announced Sienna Miller and Jack O'Connell in this new production which features set design by Magda Willi, costume design by Alice Babidge, lighting by Jon Clark and sound design by Gareth Fry. Full casting is yet to be announced.

"The truth hurts. On a steamy night in Mississippi, a Southern family gather at their cotton plantation to celebrate Big Daddy's birthday. The scorching heat is almost as oppressive as the lies they tell. Brick and Maggie dance round the secrets and sexual tensions that threaten to destroy their marriage. With the future of the family at stake, which version of the truth is real - and which will win out?"

This revival of Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer prize-winning play is the Young Vic's first production to debut directly in the West End. The drama originally premiered on Broadway in 1955 and originally opened in London at the Comedy Theatre in 1958 with Kim Stanley and Paul Massie. It is perhaps most well remembered for the 1958 Academy Award nominated film adaptation which starred Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman.

Colm Meaney was last seen in the West End in Moon for the Misbegotten at the Old Vic which later transferred to Broadway. His other theatre credits include Breaking the Code, The Cider House Rules and Juno and the Paycock. His film credits include 'The Journey', 'Roddy Doyle's The Barrytown Trilogy', 'Die Hard 2', 'Dick Tracy', 'The Last of the Mohicans', and 'The Damned United'.

Director Benedict Andrews has previously worked with the Young Vic on Three Sisters and A Streetcar Named Desire, with Gillian Anderson and Ben Foster, which transferred to New York in 2016. His many directing credits for Sydney Theatre Company include The Maids with Cate Blanchett and Isabelle Huppert, which toured to the Lincoln Centre Festival in New York; and Big and Small which came to the Barbican, also starring Cate Blanchett.

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof tickets are now on sale.
