Damn Yankees London Fringe Premiere, Jack Studio

The classic Broadway musical Damn Yankees is to receive its London fringe premiere at the Jack Studio Theatre in Brockley, South East London from 1 April to 12 April 2014.

Produced by Imperial Productions, 'Damn Yankees' was last seen in the West End in 1997 at the Adelphi Theatre. The original Broadway production won the Tony Award in 1956 for Best New Musical, and ran for 1,019 performances. The musical is written by the team behind ‘The Pajama Game’and features a book by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop, with music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross.

Damn Yankees is based on the book 'The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant', and combines the well-known tale of Faust with the world of 1950s baseball. As Joe Boyd sells his soul to the devil in order to help his team, The Washington Senators to victory, he is transformed into baseball sensation Joe Hardy. Whilst his fame continues to grow he begins to question the life he left behind and finds himself tempted by the devil's mistress, Lola. This musical comedy features an ecclectic score, including: ‘Whatever Lola Wants’, ‘Shoeless Joe’, ‘Who’s Got the Pain?’ and ‘Heart’.

The production is directed by Dom O'Hanlon, with musical direction by Sarah Burrell and Choreography by Becky East.
