Full casting announced for Long Day’s Journey Into Night with Jeremy Irons
The full cast for Eugene O'Neill's play Long Day's Journey Into Night, which will star Jeremy Irons and Lesley Manville, has been announced.
Richard Eyre's production opened at Bristol Old Vic earlier this year, and is set to run at Wyndham's Theatre from 27th January to 7th April 2018.
O'Neill' play is set in 1912 at the summer home of the Tyrone family, and is about father James, who is a seasoned actor whose has had success on the back of playing a single role, his wife Mary, who is addicted to morphine, and their sons, James and Edmund.
As previously announced, Irons and Manville will play parents James and Mary Tyrone, and they will be joined by Matthew Beard and Rory Keenan, who will play Edmund and James respectively.
Matthew Beard is best known for his role as Peter Hilton in the film The Imitation Game alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, and Guy Bellingfield in The Riot Club. His stage credits include Skylight at Wyndham's Theatre, for which he was nominated for a Tony Award after the production's subsequent West End transfer.
Rory Keenan recently appeared in the BBC's American period drama War and Peace, and the hit series Peaky Blinders. His theatre credits include Welcome Home Captain Fox (Donmar Warehouse), Someone Who'll Watch Over Me and Liola (both National Theatre).
O'Neill premiered Long Day's Journey Into Night in Sweden, as he did many of his plays, in 1956, and it went on to win the Tony Award for Best Play, and O'Neill was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the fourth time.
Long Day's Journey Into Night is at Wyndham's Theatre from 27th January to 7th April 2018.
