There are major cast changes in Grease, at the Piccadilly Theatre, from 16 June 2008.
Making his West End debut Ray Quinn joins the cast as ‘Doody’ for a limited season to 15 November. Ray went head to head with Leona Lewis in a race to become X-Factor champion in 2006.
Danny Bayne who won ITV’s Grease is the Word contest, will continue as ‘Danny’ and will be joined by Nicola Brazil as ‘Sandy’. Nicola has worked both on stage and screen and made her West End debut in the musical Wicked.
Other cast members joining from 16 June include Stuart Ramsay (Kenickie), Natalie Langston (Rizzo), Kristofer Harding (Roger) , Emily Bull (Frenchy), Laura Wilson (Jan), Emma Stephens (Marty), Benjamin Ibbott (Eugene), Emma Green (Patty), Chloe Brooks (Miss Lynch) and Kristina Macmillan (Cha Cha). Jason Capewell continues as ‘Vince’ / ‘Teen Angel’, and Bennett Andrews as 'Sonny'.
Grease opened on 8 Aug 2007, following previews from 25 July, to mostly poor notices from the popular press: THE EVENING STANDARD says, "How under-sexed, how under-done and under par I found director David Gilmore's attempt to put the brilliantine back into Grease!" THE TIMES says, "Lacklustre production." THE INDEPENDENT says, "Completely unaffecting production...a jukebox masquerading as a musical."
Grease is written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, with additional songs B Gibb, J Farrar, L St Louis & S Simon.
It is directed by David Gilmore, choreography by Arlene Phillips, and produced by Paul Nicholas and David Ian by arrangement with Robert Stigwood.
Songs from the show include 'Grease (Is The Word)'; 'You're The One That I Want'; 'Greased Lightning'; 'Hopelessly Devoted To You' and 'Sandy'.
