Guys and Dolls transfers to London's Savoy Theatre

The Chichester Festival Theatre revival of Guys and Dolls will transfer to London's Savoy Theatre on 6 January 2016, following previews from 10 December 2015, for a thirteen week limited run which is booking to 12 March 2016.

The show is based on a story and characters by Damon Runyon, with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows.

Gordon Greenberg directs and the production features choreography by Carlos Acosta and Andrew Wright, set design by Peter McKintosh, lighting by Tim Mitchell and sound by Paul Groothuis. The musical director is Gareth Valentine. Two cast members have so far been announced - reprising their roles will be Sophie Thompson as Miss Adelaide and Jamie Parker as Sky Masterson.

Guys and Dolls opened to good reviews at the Chichester Festival in August 2014: "I left the theatre walking on air and with a grin of pure happiness on my face" (The Telegraph); "Scintillating revival" (Financial Times); "Anyone who saw Richard Eyre's great 1982 National Theatre version will always have that as a favourite, but Gordon Greenberg's exhilarating Chichester staging comes in, unlike Nathan's horse tips, a very close second" (The Guardian).

Synopsis: "Nathan Detroit is desperate: he needs money for an illegal dice game, and he needs it fast. Not to mention a 14 year engagement with night-club singer Miss Adelaide whose patience is finally running out. Enter notorious gambler Sky Masterson, a guy who can never turn down a bet, and straight-laced missionary Sarah Brown, a doll with a heart of ice. The wager: Sky has to romance Sarah by taking her to Havana for dinner and in return he'll provide a dozen 'sinners' for Sarah's mission. Surely this is one bet Nathan absolutely can't lose?"

The musical first premiered on Broadway in 1950 and features some of Broadway's greatest musical numbers including 'My Time of Day', 'Luck be a Lady' and the show-stopping 'Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat'. It is based on the colourful stories by American journalist Damon Runyon, who was known for his vivid fictional depictions of the gamblers, hustlers and nightclub singers of New York.
