"Issy Van Randwyck, in "Song of Singapore", is to re-open the May Fair theatre in July 2001

The hit musical Song of Singapore starring Issy van Randwyck is to re-open London's May Fair Theatre, ten years since it last hosted a professional production.

Song of Singapore opens on 2nd July 01, following previews from 28th June 01, for a limited run to 9th Sep 01.

A hit off-Broadway, Song of Singapore was first seen in the UK at Chichester in 1998 where it won rave reviews and played to packed houses. Directed by Roger Redfarn, Issy van Randwyck leads the cast of actors and musicians as Rose of Rangoon, a sultry saloon singer in a 1941 Singapore night-club.

1941. Singapore. A seedy waterfront nightclub. Enemy troops are baying on the border, a patron has been bumped off, precious gems have gone missing and the Malayan Melody makers, the star turn at Freddy's cafe, want off the island - and quick! Will the stolen jewels be found? Will the band escape to Hawaii before the invaders arrive?

The 300 seat May Fair Theatre, situated in the five-star May Fair Inter-continental London, in the heart of the West End, first opened as a theatre in 1963 with Ralph Richardson in "Six Characters in Search of an Author" and hosted many other productions including "Under Milk Wood" and "Beyond The Fringe". Since 1992 it has operated as an extremely successful conference venue.

Before coming to the May Fair Theatre the show will play at the Minerva Theatre in Chichester (29th May 01 to 9th June 01 Tel: 01243 781312) and Greenwich Theatre (12th Jun to 23rd Jun 01).
