Jason Donovan to star in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Jason Donovan is to star in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as 'Caractacus Potts' for 5 weeks from 12 Jan 04 to 14 Feb 04 at the London Palladium. Gary Wilmot will then return to the role.

Jason Donovan's London stage credits include 'Joseph' in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at the London Palladium in 1991; "Night Must Fall" at the Haymarket in 1994; ' Frank N Furter'in "The New Rocky Horror Show" at the Victoria Palace in 1999. He is well known for the part of 'Scott" in the 80s Aussie TV soap "Neighbours", and then his pop career working with producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which is currently taking bookings to 25 Sep 2004, has music & lyrics by Richard M Sherman and Robert B Sherman. The film has been adapted for the stage by Jeremy Sams. The show is designed by Anthony Ward, has musical staging and choreography by Gillian Lynne and is directed by Adrian Noble.

The cast of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang currently includes: Caroline Sheen (Truly Scrumptious ), Peter Bishop (Caractacus Potts), Russ Abbot (Grandpa Potts) (NOTE: Russ Abbot not performing from 26th January until 7th February 04), Victor Spinetti (The Baron), Sandra Dickinson (The Baroness ), Wayne Sleep (Child Catcher).

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang opened in April 2002 to good notices from the popular press: BBC ONLINE says, "You come out of the London Palladium feeling like a kid on Christmas Eve." THE EVENING STANDARD says, "Sheer theatrical magic" And goes on to say, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang proves itself an ageless pleasure and a pleasure for all ages.
