The Crown and Challengers star Josh O’Connor will lead a revival of Clifford Odets’s American classic Golden Boy at the Almeida Theatre this autumn. Performances begin on 8 September, running through 31 October.

Forming part of artistic director Rupert Goold’s final season, Golden Boy will be directed by Olivier Award winner Sam Yates (VANYA, Magpie) and follows gifted young violinist Joe Bonaparte, as he is lured into the world of professional boxing with the promise of fame and fortune. Torn between the American Dream and a quiet, decent life, Joe must consider what he is willing to sacrifice.

Exploring ambition, identity, and the price of success, Odets’s Depression-era drama will be brought to life with a live string quartet.

Further cast and creative team are yet to be announced.
