The Almeida Theatre production of King Charles III by Mike Bartlett, which is currently playing at the Wyndham's Theatre, has announced an extension to its limited run and is now booking to 31 January 2015.

The production began previews on 2 September 2014, with an official opening on 11 September 2014. It opened to excellent reviews, with critics praising both Bartlett's script, as well the performance by Tim Pigott-Smith, who will continue in the role of Charles throughout the 9 week extension.

"The Queen is dead: after a lifetime of waiting, the prince ascends the throne. A future of power. But how to rule? This controversial piece of new writing looks at the modern state of the monarchy and the unwritten rules of democracy. Mike Bartlett examines the people underneath the crown and looks into the consciousness of Britain's most famous family."

King Charles III is directed by Almeida Artistic Director Rupert Goold, and features scenic design by Tom Scutt, music by Jocelyn Pook, lighting by Jon Clark, and sound design by Paul Arditti. The West End production is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Stuart Thompson Productions and the Almeida Theatre.

Tickets for the new performance dates are now on sale.
