Lucy Kirkwood returns to The Royal Court with new play The Children

Cast announced for Kirkwood's new play.

The Royal Court Theatre have today announced casting for Lucy Kirkwood's new play The Children which runs in the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Downstairs from 17 November 2016 to 14 January 2017 with an official opening on 24 November.

Francesca Annis, Ron Cook and Deborah Findlay will star in the production which is directed by James Macdonald with design by Miriam Buether and lighting design by Peter Mumford.

"Two retired nuclear scientists in an isolated cottage by the sea as the world around them crumbles. Together they are going to live forever on yogurt and yoga, until an old friend arrives with a frightening request."

Kirkwood won the Olivier Award for her play Chimerica. Her credits for the Royal Court include NSFW. Other credits include Like Rabbits (Brighton Festival); Chimerica (Almeida/Headlong/West End); Hansel & Gretel, Beauty & The Beast (National); The Small Hours (Hampstead); Bloody Wimmin (Tricycle); Tinderbox (Bush) and Hedda (Gate).

James Macdonald's credits for the Royal Court include Escaped Alone, The Wolf from the Door, Circle Mirror Transformation, Love & Information (& Minetta Lane, NYC), Cock (& Duke, NYC) and Drunk Enough to Say I Love You?.

Tickets for the production are now on sale, alongside special 'First Look' performances where online feedback will be asked from audience members so they can share what they think with the artistic team, influencing the final piece.
