Matilda cast changes from 15 Sep 2015

Cast changes have been announced for the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Matilda The Musical, from 15 Sep 2015, at the Cambridge Theatre.

Rebecca Thornhill will play Mrs Wormwood, replacing
Kay Murphy, Michael Begley will play Mr Wormwood, replacing James Clyde and Miria Parvin will play Miss Honey, replacing Hayley Flaherty. Other adult cast members remain unchanged, including Craige Els as Miss Trunchbull.

Matilda The Musical is written by Roald Dahl, book by Dennis Kelly, music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.

Directed by Matthew Warchus, designed by Rob Howell, sound by Simon Baker, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, choreography by Peter Darling, musical supervision and orchestration by Christopher Nightingale, special effects and illusions are by Paul Kieve.

Matilda The Musical - a story about a girl with extraordinary powers - opened at the Cambridge Theatre to favourable reviews on 24 Nov 2011 following previews from 25 Oct 2011: "It is the best new British musical since Billy Elliot" Charles Spencer for The Telegraph; "It's an evening of unadulterated bliss" Lyn Gardner for The Guardian; "A beasty baddie and stonking songs" Quentin Letts for The Daily Mail.

Rebecca Thornhill's previous London stage credits include 'From Here To Eternity' at Shaftesbury Theatre, 'Mary Poppins' at Prince Edward Theatre, 'Chicago' at Adelphi Theatre, 'Ragtime' at Piccadilly Theatre, 'Witches of Eastwick' at Prince of Wales, 'Beauty and the Beast' at Dominion Theatre and 'Les Misérables' at Palace Theatre. She was nominated for an Olivier Award her role in 'Singin' in the Rain' at the National Theatre.

Michael Begley's recent London theatre credits include 'After Electra' at Tricycle Theatre, 'Mrs Lowry and Son' at Trafalgar Studios, 'Sweet Bird of Youth' at Old Vic, 'If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet' at Bush Theatre and both 'Rhinoceros' and 'The Arsonists' at Royal Court Theatre.

Miria Parvin recently starred in the West End production of 'Once' at Phoenix Theatre playing the role of the ex-girlfiend from March 2013 to March 2015.
