Meet the London cast of ‘Matilda the Musical’

Matilda the Musical follows Matilda Wormwood, a gifted child who dares to take a stand and show the world what she is capable of. Matilda premiered at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in 2010, and later transferred to the West End's Cambridge Theatre, where it's played ever since.

Over the years, hundreds of children have worn the Crunchem Hall uniform and starred in Matilda at the Cambridge Theatre. The original Matilda quartet — Cleo Demetriou, Eleanor Worthington Cox, Kerry Ingram, and Sophia Kiely — won the Olivier for Best Actress in a Musical. Matilda is definitely the place to spot the stars of the future, today!

Victoria Alsina, Sophia Goodman, Laurel Sumberg, and Heidi Williams share the role of Matilda Wormwood

The role of Matilda Wormwood is shared between four actresses. When you’re seeing Matilda on stage, make sure to check out the cast board in the Cambridge Theatre foyer to find out who is playing Matilda at your performance.

Victoria Alsina’s previous West End credits include young Cosette in Les Miserables, and A Christmas Carol at the Dominion Theatre. She’s also starred in the UK and European tour of The King and I.

Sophia Goodman, Laurel Sumberg, and Heidi Williams make their West End debuts in Matilda.

Lauren Byrne plays Miss Honey

Lauren Byrne plays Miss Honey in Matilda the Musical. She joined the cast in 2022. She’s previously played Cinderella in Cinderella at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, and played Jane Seymour in the UK tour of Six. Throughout her career, Byrne’s covered many roles, including Carole King and Cynthia Weil in Beautiful - The Carole King Musical, and Rasa in Sunny Afternoon. Byrne takes over the role of Miss Honey from Carly Thoms.

Elliot Harper plays Miss Trunchbull

Elliot Harper first played Miss Trunchbull in the Matilda UK tour in January 2019, and later joined the West End cast in September 2019. Harper’s West End credits include The Exorcist, One Man, Two Guvnors, Les Miserables, and The Phantom of the Opera. You won’t want to miss Harper’s star turn in Matilda in London.

Landi Oshinowo plays Mrs Phelps

Landi Oshinowo joined the Matilda cast in 2019. Before Matilda, Oshinowo starred in West End shows such as The Light Princess, Shrek the Musical and Sister Act. You may have also seen Oshinowo in regional theatres nationwide; she’s starred in The Color Purple at Leicester Curve, The Pajama Game at Chichester Festival theatre, and tours of Dancing in the Street and The Who’s Tommy.

Rakesh Boury plays Mr Wormwood

Boury took over the role of Mr. Wormwood in Matilda in 2022. He’s previously starred in Man of La Mancha, We Will Rock You, and Bend it Like Beckham. Boury starred in the original cast of Fisherman’s Friends, as well as the original UK tour of Rock of Ages.

Amy Ellen Richardson plays Mrs Wormwood

Amy Ellen Richardson joins the Matilda cast in 2022 as Mrs. Wormwood. She’s no stranger to starring in musicals led by children, as she starred in The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 and 3/4 at the Ambassadors Theatre. Richardson’s London theatre credits include Sweet Charity at the Donmar Warehouse, Merrily We Roll Along at the Harold Pinter Theatre, and Les Miserables.

20 adults star in Matilda. The cast includes Felipe Bejarano as Rudolpho, Connor Lewis as Michael Wormwood, Gemma Scholes as Acrobat, Alistair So as Doctor and the Escapologist, and James Wolstenholme as the Children’s Entertainer and Sergei. Angeline Bell and Liberty Buckland play the Henchwomen, with Buckland also playing the Cook. Oliver Bingham, Michael Gardiner, and Dianté Lodge play the Henchmen. Thea Bunting, Aaron Jenkins, Kate Kenrick, Sam Lathwood, Kira McPherson are Matilda swings.

The Matilda childrens cast share the roles of Alice, Amanda Thripp, Bruce Bogtrotter, Eric, Hortensia, Lavender Brown, Nigel, and Tommy.

29 children star in Matilda.
