Burnt Out Theatre will present Muscovado by Matilda Ibini at the Holy Trinity Church, Clapham Common, south London, from 1 to 10 October 2014 as part of Black History Month.

The production will be a site-specific staging at the church where William Wilberforce campaigned for the abolition of the slave trade in the late 1780s. It will be directed by BurntOut Theatre Artistic Director, Clemmie Reynolds and will feature original music by James Reynolds, to be performed live by a choir.

Muscovado is set between the abolition of the slave trade act and the abolition of slavery and concerns the tragedy of knowing freedom but never experiencing it.
