National Theatre’s Nine Night to transfer to the West End

Natasha Gordon's debut play about a mourning Jamaican family is set to transfer

The National Theatre's production of Nine Night, Natasha Gordon's debut play, is set to transfer to the West End later this year following a sell-out run in the Dorfman earlier this year.

Gordon's play explores the rituals of family, and gets its name from the Caribbean wake period that lasts several days in which family gather at the home of the deceased and share condolences. The piece is set in Jamaica and follows the children of the recently deceased Gloria, as they embark on nine nights of rum, food and stories with family and friends who have gathered.

It will run at Trafalgar Studios from 1^st December to 8^th February, with a press night on 6^th December.

In a four-star review for LondonTheatre.co.uk, Mark Shenton said the play 'is acted with such warmth that it emerges as both a bracing and embracing family story that we can all relate to'. Click here to read the full review.

Casting for the West End production is yet to be announced, but the original National Theatre production had design by Rajha Shakiry, with lighting design by Paule Constable, sound design by George Dennis, movement direction by Shelley Maxwell and fight direction by Bret Yount.

Nine Night is at Trafalgar Studios from 1st December to 8th February, with an official opening on 6th December.
