Open Air Theatre Regent's Park announce 2003 Season

The Open Air Theatre, Regent's Park, has announced its 71st season.

The season runs in repertoire from 2 June 03 to 6 Sep 03 . (Repertoire dates tbc)

Productions include.....

A Midsummer Night's Dream, by William Shakespeare, opens on 9 June, following previews from 2 Jun 03. It is directed by Michael Pennington, with designs & costumes Paul Farnsworth. This production brings a flavour of the Mediterranean to thepark, where the real and the magical collide in an enchanting tale of mismatched lovers.

Two Gentlemen of Verona, by William Shakespeare, opens on 13 June, following previews from 4 Jun 03. It is directed by Rachel Kavanaugh, with designs & costumes Paul Farnsworth. Two impulsive young friends travel to Milan where they attempt to win the affections of the beautiful and sophisticated Silvia.

High Society, Music and lyrics by Cole Porter, opens on 24 July, following previews from 22 July 03. It is directed by Ian Talbot, choreographed by Gillian Gregory, with designs & costumes Paul Farnsworth. HIGH SOCIETY is a musical adaptation of Philip Barry's 1939 play "The Philadelphia Story", which was made into a film in the 1950s starring Grace Kelly, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. This is the first professional London staging for over 15 years. HIGH SOCIETY is the story of a recently divorced woman, with an impending marriage to an upper-crust man. A reporter, who is meant to be covering the wedding, gets her drunk, takes her swimming and reveals a few gaps in her high-class demeanour.This musical version features songs such as 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire', ''True Love' You're Sensational' and 'Swell Party'.

Granny and The Gorilla, a children's play by Stuart Paterson, opens on 30 July 03. TheNew Shakespeare Company co -produces with Unicorn Theate for Children. It is directed by Tony Graham. In a roller-coaster ride of magic and mayhem, the evil witch Scarab is hatching a plot to take over the world. An unlikely bunch of heroes come to the rescue; Robbie, Granny and an escaped gorilla called Shinda - but can they resist the pervasive power of greed? (***Suitable for everyone over the age of six. )

A number of Sunday in the Park Concerts will also take place during the summer. Ross Noble brings his stand-up tour out in the open on 6 July 03, and folk singer Kathryn Williams will perform a special acoustic set on 10 Aug 03. The Comedy Store Players, now a regular summer fixture in the park, will perform on 27 July 03.
