Sandy Wilson's musical The Boy Friend is set to be revived at the Menier Chocolate Factory over the Christmas period.

Following recent musical successes with the West End transfer of Fiddler on the Roof and The Bridges of Madison County currently at the venue, Matthew White will direct the production at the theatre.

Set in Madame Dubonnet's French finishing school, the musical premiered in 1953 in the West End, running for over 2,000 performances, as well as transferring to Broadway where it starred newcomer Julie Andrews, who was spotted by the producers of the then-upcoming film My Fair Lady during the run.

White's production is the first major revival of the musical in 10 years, and sees the director return to the Menier following previous productions of She Loves Me, Candide and Sweet Charity.

While casting is yet to be announced, the creative team includes choreographer Bill Deamer, designer Paul Farnsworth, lighting designer Paul Anderson, sound designer Gregory Clarke, hair and wig designer Richard Mawbey, musical supervisor/director Simon Beck and orchestrator David Cullen.

The Boy Friend is at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 22nd November to 7th March 2020.
