"THE FULL MONTY" TO CLOSE 23 NOV 02

The Full Monty, has posted early closing notices after a run of only 9 months at the Prince of Wales theatre. The last performance will be 23 Nov 02. This announcement comes just two weeks after the show announced an extension to September next year.

The show opened in March this year to good notices from most of the popular press, but the show has not been doing particularly well at the box office.

The musical is based on the successful British comedy film of the same name. The Broadway musical is set in Buffalo New York, a steel town, which shares a similar history with Sheffield, where the film was set.

It tells the story of six unemployed working-class men who form a male strip act to help restore their confidence. Their gimmick is that they will show 'the full monty,' i.e., they will strip completely naked.

The cast includes Ben Richards (Jerry), Paul Keating (Ethan), Cornell John (Noah), David Ganly (Dave), Samuel James (Malcolm) and Tony Timberlake (Harold).

The show has a book by Terrence McNally and music & lyrics by David Yazbek. It is directed by Jack O'Brien, designed by John Arnone with lighting by Howell Binkley. Choreography is by Jerry Mitchell and costumes by Bob Morgan.
