The Sound of Music, starring Carrie Underwood to be streamed online

Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music is the latest production to be streamed as part of The Show Must Go On series. Carrie Underwood stars as Maria von Trapp in The Sound of Music Live! which originally aired in the United States in 2013.

Based on the original 1959 production, The Sound of Music Live! follows Maria as she looks after the von Trapp children, falling in love with their father and later fleeing Austria. The musical features songs including "Edelweiss", "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" and "My Favourite Things".

The cast includes Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Carrie Underwood as Maria. She is joined by Stephen Moyer as Captain Georg von Trapp, Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess, Laura Benanti as Elsa Schräder / Fräulein Schweiger and Christian Borle as Max Detweiler.

The Sound of Music Live! was originally broadcast by NBC on December 5, 2013, with over 18 million live viewers tuning in.

This week's stream marks the first non-Andrew Lloyd Webber musical to be made available, with previous shows including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar and The Phantom of the Opera.
