Times chief theatre reviewer Benedict Nightingale to retire

Chief theatre critic of The Times Newspaper, BENEDICT NIGHTINGALE, aged 70, is to retire at the end of May this year, but will continue as a contributor. He has been a theatre reviewer for over 50 years, the last 20 years with The Times Newspaper.

The Times columnist LIBBY PURVES will take over as the newspaper’s chief theatre critic.

Benedict Nightingale is the second major newspaper critic to retire within the last 12 months, following the departure of Nicholas de Jongh last year as the chief reviewer of the Evening Standard.
