Trevor Nunn is set to direct a new version of the classic musical Fiddler on the Roof at the Menier Chocolate Factory this Christmas.

With a music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and a book by Joseph Stein, the musical features some of musical theatre's most-loved tunes, including "Sunrise, Sunset," "If I Were a Rich Man" and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker". It tells the story of a Jewish father striving to maintain his cultural heritage as it is challenged by a number of external influences.

It will run at the Menier from 23rd November to 9th March, with an official opening night on 5th December.

Fiddler on the Roof opened in the West End at Her Majesty's Theatre in February 1967 and was revived in London in May 2007 at the Savoy Theatre.

Nunn's previous work at the Menier includes Lettice and Lovage, Love in Idleness, A Little Night Music and Aspects of Love, while his major West End credits include and Les Misérables and a number of productions from his time as the artistic director at the Royal Shakespeare Company and National Theatre.

Casting for Fiddler on the Roof in London is yet to be announced.

Fiddler on the Roof is at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 23rd November to 9th March.
