Waiting For Godot with McKellen & Stewart

Samuel Beckett's Waiting For Godot, starring Ian McKellen (Estragon) & Patrick Stewart (Vladimir), will open at the Haymarket Theatre 6 May 2009, following previews from 30 April - for a limited run to 28 June 2009. (Performs Tuesday to Sundays). (The play will tour the UK prior to its opening in London)

It is directed by Sean Mathias, designed by Stephen Brimson Lewis, lighting by Paul Pyant. It is produced by Theatre Royal Haymarket Company in partnership with Duncan C. Weldon Productions Ltd.

Waiting for Godot follows two consecutive days in the lives of tramps, Vladimir and Estragon , who divert themselves by clowning around, joking and arguing, while waiting expectantly and unsuccessfully for the mysterious Godot.

Ian McKellen's London stage credits includes "The Seagull" & "King Lear" for the RSC at the New London in 2007; "The Cut" at the Donmar Warehouse in 2006;"Aladdin" at the Old Vic in 2004 and 2005; "Dance of Death" at the Lyric in 2003; "An Enemy of the People" at the Olivier, NT in 1998; "Peter Pan" at the Olivier, NT in 1997. His film credits include Gandalf in "The Lord of the Rings" and the "X-Men" films.

Patrick Stewart's London stage credits includes Claudius in "Hamlet" for the RSC coming up at the Novello Theatre in Dec 2008; "Macbeth" at the Gielgud in 2007; "The Tempest" & Antony & Cleopatra for the RSC at the Novello in 2007; A Christmas Carol at the Albery in 2005; "A Life in Theatre" at the Apollo in 2005; The Master Builder at the Albery in 2003. His TV and film credits include Jean-Luc Picard in the Star Trek The Next Generation and the X-Men films

(Prior to the Theatre Royal Haymarket run, Waiting for Godot will tour to Malvern Theatres (5 - 14 March), Milton Keynes Theatre (16 - 21 March), Brighton Theatre Royal (23 - 28 March), Bath Theatre Royal (30 March - 4 April), Norwich Theatre Royal (6 - 11 April), Edinburgh King's Theatre (13 - 18 April) and Newcastle Theatre Royal (20 - 25 April).
