Born in London in 1977, the two-time Olivier Award-nominated actress Rachael Stirling has made her name on television and on stage. She’s best known for her stage appearances in Priory and An Ideal Husband.
Stirling grew up in a theatrical family to actress Diana Rigg and theatre producer Archibald Stirling. She then went on to graduate from the University of Edinburgh with a BA in art history. While at university, she performed with the Edinburgh University Theatre Company. Her professional debut came at the age of 19, playing Desdemona in a National Youth Theatre production of Othello, later starring in productions of The Odd Couple and Dancing at Lughnasa.
In 2009, Stirling played Rebecca in The Priory at the Royal Court Theatre, earning her first Olivier Award nomination for Best Performance in a Supporting Role. The following year, she received her second Olivier nomination for her performance as Lady Chiltern in An Ideal Husband at the Vaudeville Theatre.
