Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey have teased their on-stage reunion in a revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Sunday in the Park with George.
The pair shared an Instagram post on 14 January, which showed them sat in front of the painting "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" at The Art Institute of Chicago.
The rumour was first published in an article on Deadline on 16 December, in which it was said the musical will be directed by Tony Award and Olivier Award winner Marianne Elliott.
It is also rumoured that the musical will open at the Barbican in 2027. The venue has not confirmed this news.
Sunday in the Park with George follows painter Georges Seurat in the months leading up to the completion of his most famous painting "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte". The musical was last revived on Broadway in 2017, and last seen in London in 2005, with Jenna Russell cast as Dot.
Grande would be making make her West End debut in the show, opposite her Wicked and Wicked: For Good co-star Bailey. The pair played Glinda and Fiyero in the popular films based on the stage musical, with Cynthia Erivo playing Elphaba.
Bailey was last seen on stage in Richard II at the Bridge Theatre in 2025. Bailey has previously worked with Elliott on Cock in 2022 and Company in 2018.
