Beautiful and Damned musical at the Lyric Theatre from 28 April 2004

Tickets are now on sale for the musical Beautiful and Damned , which opens at the Lyric Theatre 10 May 2004, following previews from 28 April, and booking to 14 Aug 2004.

Casting for the West End run has yet to be confirmed, although, when the show played at Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in 2003 Scott and Zelda were played by John Barrowman (now appearing in Anything Goes), and Helen Anker.

Beautiful and Damned has been devised by singer-songwriter, Roger Cook, who came up with the idea in 1977. The resulting musical has been more than a decade in the making, and boasts music and lyrics by Cook and Les Reed, with a book by Kit Hesketh Harvey

This 'evocative and glittering' musical, set in the 1920's, follows the story of an outrageously glamorous and fashionable couple - The Scott Fitzgeralds. He's a successful young author and she's the stylish young wife who, together, become the envy of all with their high spending and high-flying lifestyle. They created their own world of enchantment. Scott christened the period The Jazz Age, and Zelda lived it. Yet the darker tale that lay behind the dazzling facade just begged to be told.
