Bedella & Ingram cast in Twickenham's Sweeney Todd

Full casting has now been announced for the Twickenham Theatre's inaugural season's first production - Stephen Sondheim's gruesome musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, directed by Derek Anderson, which will begin previews on 10 Sep 2014, officially open on 16 Sep and continue its limited engagement through to 04 Oct 2014.

Olivier Award-winner David Bedella and Sarah Ingram will take on the iconic roles of Sweeney Todd and his Mrs Lovett, respectively.

The rest of the cast of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street includes Mark McKerracher (Judge Turpin), Zoe Curlett (Beggar Woman), Shaun Chambers (Pirelli), Genevieve Kingsford (Johanna), Mikaela Newton (Tobias), and Josh Tevendale (Anthony).

Synopsis: 'Set in 19th century England, the musical tells the story of Benjamin Barker, aka Sweeney Todd, who returns to London after 15 years' transportation on trumped-up charges. When he finds out that his wife poisoned herself after being raped by the judge who transported him, he vows revenge on the judge and, later, other people too. He teams up with a piemaker, Mrs. Lovett, and opens a barbershop in which he slits the throats of customers and has them baked into pies.'

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a co-production between the Twickenham Theatre and David Adkin. It features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and book by Hugh Wheeler. This production features musical supervision by Tim Jackson, musical direction by Ben Holder, scenic design by Rachel Stone, costumes by Olivia Ward and sound design by Joel Price.

The Twickenham Theatre will be a 100-seat venue, which will act as both a producing and receiving house. It is located just one minute away from Twickenham Rail Station in west London.

Bios:

David Bedella won an Olivier Award in 2004 for Best Actor in a Musical for his role of the warm-up man Jonathan Weiruss/Satan in 'Jerry Springer The Opera'. Other notable West End and Off-West End credits include Frank n Furter in 'The Rocky Horror Show', Billy Flynn in 'Chicago', Hedwig in 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch', Arnold in 'Torch Song Trilogy', Wilson Mizner in Sondheim's 'Road Show', Man 1 in Sondheim's 'Putting It Together' and Kevin in the UK Premiere of 'Into The Heights'. He is also known for his television role of Dr Carlos Fashola in 'Holby City'.

Sarah Ingram has appeared on stage in countless musicals 'Oklahoma!', 'South Pacific', 'Martin Guerre', 'Inherit The Wind', 'Flashdance', 'Imagine This', 'Muderous Instincts' and 'Napoleon', and more recently in Sondheim's 'Road Show', as Josie in Boy George's musical 'Taboo' and as Miss Hannigan in 'Annie'.
