It has been reported that Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett will return to the West End stage in a new stage adaptation of All About Eve, directed by celebrated Belgian director Ivo van Hove in 2018.

This new adaptation of the classic 1950 film 'All About Eve' will see Blanchett take on the role of Margo Channing, originally played by Bette Davis. Based on the 1946 short story "The Wisdom of Eve" by Mary Orr it follows Broadway star Margo Channing who finds her career threatened by an ambitious fan Eve Harrington who encroaches on her stage roles and personal relationships.

The film was adapted into a stage musical under the name Applause in 1970 which featured a book by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, lyrics by Lee Adams, and music by Charles Strouse. Lauren Bacall created the role of Margo Channing onstage and the show went on to win the Tony Award for Best Musical, running for 896 performances.

'All About Eve' received 14 Academy Awards nominations and won six, including Best Picture. Van Hove's stage production will be produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and Fox Stage Productions and will run in spring 2018 at a yet-to-be-announced West End theatre.

Cate Blanchett was last seen on stage in London in the Sydney Theatre Company's production of Gross und Klein at the Barbican. She has recently starred on Broadway in The Present.

More information about All About Eve is yet to be announced.
