"Chicago" transfers to Cambridge Theatre 28 April 2006

Chicago is to transfer to Cambridge Theatre 28 April 2006 after nearly 9 years at Adelphi Theatre.

Chicago, which opened at the Adelphi Theatre 18 Nov 1997, following previews from 27 Oct 1997, will now end its run at the theatre on 22 April 2006.It will then re-open at the Cambridge Theatre on 28 April 2006.

The Cambridge Theatre was the London home of Chicago, when the first production of the show opened there on 10 April 1979, running for 603 performances.

Dancing in the Street, which is currently playing at the Cambridge Theatre will end its run on 22 April 2006. It is not known if the show will transfer to another theatre.

Chicago at the Adelphi Theatre currently features Darius Danesh as 'Billy Flynn' , Victor McGuire as 'Amos Hart', and Chrissie Hammond as 'Mama Morton'. From 30 Jan 2006 Linzi Hateley (Roxie Hart) and Debbie Kurup(Velma Kelly) will join the show.

Linzi Hateley returns to the role of 'Roxie Hart', coming direct to the show from playing the leading role of 'Mrs Banks' in "Mary Poppins" at the Prince Edward Theatre. Her other West End roles include 'Eponine' in "Les Miserables" and 'The Narrator' in "Jason and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat".

Debbie Kurup has played leading roles in the West End productions of "Tonight's the Night" at the Victoria Palace Theatre and "Rent" and "West Side Story", both at the Prince of Wales Theatre; she was featured in the BBC television series "He's Having a Baby" last summer.

Chicago, is based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, has a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. Scenic design is by John Lee Beatty, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting by Ken Billington and sound by Rick Clarke. Musical supervision is by Rob Fisher and musical direction by Gareth Valentine. It is choreographed by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse and directed by Walter Bobbie.

Chicago, become the longest running production ever to play at the Adelphi Theatre on 17 Oct 2005, replacing "Me and My Girl", the previous record-holder with a run of 3,303 performances.

The musical concerns Roxie, a chorus girl who has murdered her lover but manages to get acquitted with the help of sleazy lawyer.
