David Witts to play Fiyero in Wicked in the West End

The former EastEnders actor will take on the role in the hit musical in July

Actor David Witts has been announced as the latest actor to take on the role of Fiyero in the West End production of Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre.

Witts is best-known for playing Joey Branning in the BBC soap EastEnders, and has previously appeared on stage as Link in Hairspray at the Leicester Curve Theatre. He trained at National Youth Theatre and the National Youth Music Theatre.

Witts will take over as Fiyero on 23rd July 2018, as current Fiyero Bradley Jaden will play his final performance on 21st July. Wicked tickets are available now.

On taking on the role, Witts said: "After three amazing years living and working in Los Angeles, I am excited to be getting back on stage again and to be coming home to make my West End debut in the incredible musical Wicked.

"I can't wait to start rehearsals and to join everyone at the Apollo Victoria Theatre from 23rd July."

Stephen Schwartz's musical Wicked is based on the novel 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West' by Gregory Maguire, and was adapted for the stage by Winnie Holzman. The show premiered on Broadway in 2003 at the Gershwin Theatre, where it continues to run. It has been running in the West End since 2006.

The cast of Wicked currently includes Alice Fearn (Elphaba), Sophie Evans (Glinda), Bradley Jaden (Fiyero), Melanie La Barrie (Madame Morrible), Andy Hockley (The Wizard), Martin Ball (Doctor Dillamond), Sarah McNicholas (Nessarose) and Jack Lansbury (Boq). The cast is subject to change from 23rd July 2018.

Wicked is booking at the Apollo Victoria Theater until 24th May 2019.
