Denise van Outen to play Velma Kelly in Chicago from September

Denise van Outen is set to star in the West End production of Chicago as she takes on the role of Velma Kelly at the Phoenix Theatre.

The actress first appeared in the musical when it was playing at the Adelphi Theatre in London in April 2001, starring as Roxie Hart. She then took on the role again on Broadway, before reprising it in London in April 2002.

Her other stage credits include Andrew Lloyd Webber's Tell Me on a Sunday, Some Girl I Used To Know, and a recent concert performance of Sweet Charity at Cadogan Hall.

Van Outen will star alongside Alexandra Burke as Roxie Hart and Duncan James as Billy Flynn when she takes over the role of Velma from 24th September through to 17th November. Chicago tickets are available here.

The cast also includes Mazz Murray as Mama Morton, and Paul Rider as Amos Hart.

The current London production of Chicago opened at the Phoenix in April 2018, starring Cuba Gooding Jnr as Billy Flynn in his London theatre debut - a role he is now reprising on Broadway - and Ruthie Henshall as Mama Morton.

Chicago is scheduled to run at the Phoenix Theatre until 5th January, before Broadway musical Come From Away gets its West End premiere at the theatre.
