Donmar Warehouse announce 2004 Season

The Donmar Warehouse have announced their 2004 Season, which includes....

World Music, by Steve Waters, opens 16 Feb 04, following previews from 12 Feb, and booking to 13 Mar 04. (Public booking opens 24 November 03).
It is directed Josie Rourke, designed by Christopher Oram, lighting by Neil Austin. Cast includes: Nikki Amuka-Bird, Sebastian Harcombe, Sara Powell, Paul Ready and Assly Zandry. The troubled and bloody relationship between Africa and Europe spills into the personal lives and loves of two generations. World Music draws from the tragic history of central Africa to show how the deeds of the past contaminate our hopes for the future. The events of the play, whilst fictional, are closely related to the tragic histories of Rwanda and Burundi.

John lives with his elderly Mother and is helping the police with their enquiries. Brian and Janet's teenage son only talks to strangers. Barnaby and Louisa have a new baby whom they cannot name. Three households live side by side in isolation. Then the lights go out...

An Italian nobleman falls from his horse during a pageant. When he comes round, he believes he's his carnival character, the medieval German Emperor, King Henry IV. For twenty years he has lived this illusion, aided by a wealthy relative who sets him up in an 11th century castle, complete with a retinue of costumed courtiers. Today a plot is being hatched to shock him out of this 'madness' and into the twenty-first century...

1928. Berlin. At Grand Hotel the guests and staff are suffering from an excess of hope and optimism as the stock market booms. The city's decadent high life is in full swing.
