Fundraising Gala in aid of Haringey Shed Theatre Company

Press Release below

Stars of stage and screen are throwing their personal support behind efforts to provide top class performing arts opportunities to more children and young people in Haringey. Eastenders actress, Angela Wynter and Danny John Jules, who played ‘Cat’ in Red Dwarf are just two of the well know personalities who have agreed to come to Tottenham on Sunday July 10 to perform in a Fundraising Gala in aid of Haringey Shed Theatre Company. A number of West End musical stars are also taking part including Kim Ismay, who is currently appearing in Mamma Mia and Hannah Jane Fox from We will rock you. You may also recognise some of our audience. Actors from the Bill; Lisa Maxwell who plays Samantha Nixon, and Scott Maslen who plays Phil Hunter have tickets for the show.

Around 200 young members of Haringey Shed will appear alongside the stars in the gala show which will raise funds to enable the unique theatre group to develop its pioneering work in the community. The event will also feature an auction in which bidders can compete for a wide range of unusual lots, including an opportunity to meet John Nettles on the set of Midsummer Murders, a visit to the UK’s only psychic museum to meet the country’s top astrologer, Jonathan Cainer, and a number of nights out in London’s theatre land.

Director of Haringey Shed, Kate Annett says:

“We are lucky to have many friends and supporters in the world of professional theatre and TV and they are really rallying around to make our fundraising gala a success. Many of them have worked with our children and young people in the past and understand the importance of the groundbreaking work that Haringey Shed is doing.

“We currently have more than a hundred youngsters on the waiting list to join Haringey Shed at a time our funding is being cut back. It is now vital that we raise extra money to develop our work and ensure that children are not denied the opportunity to develop their performance skills in a uniquely inclusive environment.”

Haringey Shed is a registered charity which provides opportunities to participate in the performing arts to many local children and young people who might otherwise be excluded from them. Around one in three members of Haringey Shed has special needs. The Fundraising Gala takes place at Northumberland Park Sports Centre Theatre, Worcester Avenue, London N17 OTU on Sunday 10th July from 6.30 – 9.30pm. Tickets are £10 and can be bought from Haringey Shed 020 8275 4835.
