The Menier Chocolate Factory have announced further casting for their upcoming revival of Peter Shaffer's Lettice and Lovage which runs at their south London venue from 4 May to 8 July 2017, with an official opening on 17 May.

Directed by Trevor Nunn, the production will star Felicity Kendal, Maureen Lipman, Petra Markham and Sam Dastor.

"Lettice, employed as a stately home tourist guide, has inherited theatricality and eccentricity from her mother. Caught using 'alternative facts' to embroider the history of the house by Lotte, her supervisor, she is dismissed. During the dismissal interview they uncover common ground with the result that she and Lotte develop an unlikely friendship."

Peter Shaffer's plays include Five Finger Exercise (Evening Standard Drama Award), The Private Ear/The Public Eye, The Royal Hunt of the Sun, Black Comedy, Equus (Tony Award for Best Play) and Amadeus (Evening Standard Drama Award and Tony Award for Best Play).

Lettice and Lovage originally premiered at the Theatre Royal Bath before transferring to the West End's Gielgud Theatre in 1987, where it ran for 768 performances. Maggie Smith created the role of Lettice Douffet, transferring with the production to Broadway where she won the 1990 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play.

Trevor Nunn returns to the Menier following their current production of Love in Idleness, which has recently announced a West End transfer. The Menier Chocolate Factory currently have Travesties running at the Apollo Theatre, David Baddiel: My Family Not the Sitcom at the Playhouse Theatre and a UK tour of Funny Girl.

Tickets for Lettice and Lovage are now on sale.
