God of Carnage to close 14 June 2008 at Gielgud

God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton, is to close at the end of its scheduled 14-week limited season at the Gielgud Theatre on 14 June 2008.

The producers report that the show has paid back its entire £525,000 capitalization in a record-breaking six weeks.

God of Carnage opened on 25 March 2008, following previews from 7 March to good notices from the popular press: THE EVENING STANDARD says, "God Of Carnage doesn't stimulate much thought, but it certainly provokes rueful laughter." THE GUARDIAN says, "Witty translation...deft production." THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "A crackling night of electrifying comic acting." THE TIMES says, "Tense, edgy and funny..."

Directed by Matthew Warchus, the play features Ralph Fiennes, Tamsin Greig, Janet McTeer, Ken Stott

What happens when two sets of parents meet up to deal with the unruly behaviour of their children. A calm and rational debate between grown ups about the need to teach kids how to behave properly? Or a hysterical night of name calling, tantrums and tears before bedtime? Boys will be boys, but the adults are usually worse - much worse.
