Hand to God will close one week early

Tony-nominated American play Hand to God, by Robert Askins, will be closing one week early at the Vaudeville Theatre. The show opened on 15 February 2016 following previews from 5 February, and had been due to run until 11 June 2016. It will now close on 4 June 2016.

The cast is led by Harry Melling, known primarily for creating the role of Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter film franchise. The cast also includes Olivier Award-winning actress Janie Dee, together with Neil Pearson, Jemima Rooper and Kevin Mains.

Reviews for the production have been mixed: "If one is seeking comedy about possession by an anarchic puppet, one might find more laughs in Rod Hull and Emu" (The Guardian); "Hand to God is a totally bonkers piece of theatre. It's violent, blasphemous, obscene, puerile and sweaty. Oh, and it's absolutely hilarious" (Radio Times); "A show that is going to divide people right down the middle" (LondonTheatre.co.uk).

Synopsis: "A shy teenager named Jason is surprised when his Bible School project—a puppet named Tyrone—takes on a shocking, truth-telling personality all its own, forcing everyone in its path, especially Jason's mother Margery, to confront their own demons as they search for redemption through a mix of riotous laughter and genuinely shocking twists."

The show is directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel, and includes scenic design by Beowulf Boritt, costumes by Sydney Maresca, lighting by Jason Lyons, sound by Jill BC Du Boff, puppet design by Marte Johanne Ekhougen and fight direction by Robert Westley.

Produced by Kevin McCollum, Hand to God originally opened at Broadway's Booth Theatre on 7 April 2015. It received five 2015 Tony Award nominations including Best Play, Direction of a Play (Moritz von Stuelpnagel), Actor in a Leading Role in a Play (Steven Boyer), Actress in a Leading Role in a Play (Geneva Carr), and Actress in a Featured Role in a Play (Sarah Stiles).
