Janie Dee to star in premiere of Monogamy at Park Theatre
The play is about Caroline Mortimer (Dee), a famous television chef who seems to have everything going for her: loving husband, good kids and a luxurious home in Highgate. But she is forced to face living a private life in the public eye.
Monogamy will open in Malvern in May before running in Guildford and York, and then opening at the Park Theatre on 6th June.
Dee is currently starring in the National Theatre’s production of Follies, for which she has received critical acclaim, and her previous West End credits in Carousel (NT), Mack & Mabel (Criterion) and Noises Off (The Old Vic). She has also recently released her debut album, Live at the BBC.
Alastair Whatley will direct Monogamy, which will have design by James Perkins and lighting by Chris Withers. Further casting for the play is to be announced.
Of his new play, Betts said: “I'm also very much looking forward to working with Janie Dee again after she starred in my adaptation of The Seagull at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre a few years ago. There are elements of that play in Monogamy, in that it's about, amongst other things, the conflict between an unhappy middle-aged celebrity and her angry son who feels very much at war with the modern world.”
