Kinky Boots set for West End premiere at Adelphi Theatre

The 2013 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Kinky Boots is finally crossing the pond for its West End premiere. The musical comedy, with a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by Tony and two-time Grammy Award winner Cyndi Lauper, will begin previews at the Adelphi Theatre on 21 August 2015, before an official opening on 15 September 2015.

Producers Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig released the following statement:

Kinky Boots is directed and choreographed by two-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell and features set design by David Rockwell, costumes by Gregg Barnes, lighting by Kenneth Posner, sound design by John Shivers and musical supervision, arrangements & orchestrations by Stephen Oremus.

The musical is produced by Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig, James L. Nederlander, Terry Allen Kramer, Independent Presenters Network, CJ E&M, Jayne Baron Sherman, Just for Laughs Theatricals/Judith Ann Abrams, Yasuhiro Kawana, Jane Bergere, Allan S. Gordon & Adam S. Gordon, Ken Davenport, Hunter Arnold, Lucy and Phil Suarez, Bryan Bantry, Ron Fierstein and Dorsey Regal, Jim Kierstead/Gregory Rae, BB Group/Christina Papagjika, Michael DeSantis/Patrick Baugh, Brian Smith/Tom and Connie Walsh, Warren Trepp, and Jujamcyn Theaters, in association with Cameron Mackintosh.

The Broadway production of Kinky Boots officially opened at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on 4 April 2013, following previews from 3 March 2013. It was nominated for a total of 13 Tony Awards, of which it won six: Best Musical, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical (Billy Porter), Best Original Score (Cyndi Lauper), Best Choreography (Jerry Mitchell), Best Orchestrations (Stephen Oremus); and Best Sound Design (John Shivers).

The 2005 British film, directed by Julian Jarrold, starred Academy Award winner Chiwetel Ejiofor as Lola, Joel Edgerton, Jemima Rooper and Nick Frost. Ejiofor was nominated for a Golden Globe for 'Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy' for his performance.

Casting will be announced at a later date, with tickets going on sale to the general public on 2 March 2015.
