The Pulitzer Prize-winning play Liberation will come to London in 2027, producers Daryl Roth, Eva Price and Rachel Sussman announced today. Dates and a theatre have yet to be announced.
Written by Bess Wohl and directed by Whitney White, Liberation centers on a consciousness-raising feminist group in 1970s Ohio, representing different backgrounds and ideologies as they try to make big change in their small town. Fifty years later, the founder's daughter tries to piece together how her mom's life turned out so differently than she planned all those years ago.
The play premiered off and then on Broadway in 2025, earning critical acclaim both times. New York Theatre Guide's review of Liberation on Broadway reads, "It still sings and soars in Act 1 and then punches you in the gut in Act 2. And it is still essential theatregoing this Broadway season."
In addition to winning the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Liberation won Outstanding Play honors at the Drama League and Outer Critics Circle Awards. It is currently nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Play.
The London run will be presented in association with Olivier Award-winning producers Eleanor Lloyd Productions and Eilene Davidson Productions.
