London Premiere of Dogfight at the Southwark Playhouse

Producer Danielle Tarento will bring the UK premiere of Dogfight , the winner of the 2013 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical, to the Southwark Playhouse in south London from 8 Aug to 13 Sep 2014.

The musical features music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, along with book by Peter Duchan and is based on the 1991 Warner Bros film and screenplay of the same name by Bob Comfort. The show premiered off-Broadway in 2012 where it was nominated for five Outer Critics Circle and two Drama Desk Awards.

"November 21, 1963. On the night before their deployment to Vietnam, three young Marines set out for one final boys' night of debauchery. But when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, the unassuming and idealistic waitress he enlists to win a cruel bet, she rewrites the rules of the game and opens his eyes to what really matters in life."

Dogfight will be directed by Matt Ryan and feature choreography by Lucie Pankhurst. Musical direction will be by George Dyer, with designs by Lee Newby, lighting by Howard Hudson and sound design by Andrew Johnson. Casting is to be announced.

Benj Pasek and Justin Paul's musical theatre credits include writing the score for the Broadway production of 'A Christmas Story', which was nominated for three Tony Award nominations for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score. Producer Danielle Tarento's previous credits at the Southwark Playhouse include 'Titanic', 'Victor/Victoria', 'Mack & Mabel', 'Parade', and 'Company'.
