Miami Vice star Don Johnson to make West End Stage debut in Guys and Dolls in January 2007

Miami Vice star Don Johnson is to play Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls at the Piccadilly Theatre from 8 January 2007

Don Johnson is internationally known as the star of both “Miami Vice” and “Nash Bridges”, but started his career on stage when he landed the lead role in the musical “Your Own Thing”, followed by the lead in the play “Fortune and Men’s Eyes”. He is also a recording artist with two albums to his name.

Patrick Swayze ends his run as Nathan Detroit on 2 Dec 2006. Alex Ferns then takes over until Don Johnson joins cast. Alex is popularly known for his starring role as ‘Trevor’ in “EastEnders” and his other television credits include “Making Waves”, “Doctors”, “Randall and Hopkirk Deceased”, “Wings”, “Holby City” and “Taggart”. He has also starred in several London stage productions including “Coyote on a Fence”, “I.D” and “Art”. Alex will also star in the UK touring production of "Guys and Dolls" from Feb 2007.

The show will continue to feature Samantha Janus (Miss Adelaide), Amy Nuttall (Sarah Brown) and Norman Bowman (Sky Masterson) .

Guys and Dolls, opened at the Piccadilly Theatre on 1 June 2005, following previews from 19 May 2005, to moderate notices from the popular press: PAUL TAYLOR for THE INDEPENDENT says, "Utterly elating revival..this production looks to be a sure-fire winner." CHARLES SPENCER for THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, " There is much to enjoy, passages when the show undoubtedly achieves lift-off, but it never quite achieves that sense of pure and continuous pleasure .." Guys and Dolls has music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. It is directed by Michael Grandage; designed by Christopher Oram; choreography by Rob Ashford, lighting by Howard Harrison; and sound by Terry Jardine and Chris Full.

Brings to life the Broadway of the 1940's, inhabited by gamblers, nightclub performers and members of the Salvation Army, in search of sinners to cure. The score includes numbers as 'Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat', 'Luck Be A Lady Tonight' and 'Take Back Your Mink'.
