"Movin' Out" to close early 22 May 2006

Movin'Out, the Broadway dance show set to the classic hits of Billy Joel, has posted early closing notices for Mon 22 May 2006 at the Apollo Victoria Theatre after a run of only 2 months. It was originally booking to 17 July 2006.

A statement says: "Despite enthusiastic audiences and standing ovations most nights together with some great reviews, the producers have made the difficult decision to close the show early. Movin' Out has not attracted the level of audiences needed to sustain the production which requires two troupes of dancers."

The show opening at the Apollo Victoria Theatre 18 April 2006, following previews from 28 Mar 2006, to reasonable notices from the popular press: THE EVENING STANDARD says, " Tharp's dancers and Joel's music are every bit as sensational as you've heard." THE INDEPENDENT says, "The dancing is athletic, hard-driven and relentlessly slick." THE GUARDIAN says, "Enjoyable as individual moments are, this show remains an unsatisfactory hybrid." THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "This is a show that really packs a punch." THE TIMES says, "It's the best show dancing in town." LISA MARTLAND for THE STAGE says, "Tharp's choreography is outstanding."

The cast includes: James Fox (Piano Man), Holly Cruickshank (Brenda), Ron Todorowski (Eddie), David Gomez (Tony), Matthew Dibble (James), Laura Costa-Chaud (Judy).

The Movin'Out story is told without dialogue, combining choreography by Twyla Tharp, with 24 songs written by Billy Joel, including classics such as 'Uptown Girl', 'We Didn't Start the Fire', 'She's Got a Way' and title track 'Movin' Out'.

The tracks are performed live by a ten piece rock band visible on stage throughout the performance in which 'rock 'n' roll meets theatre'.
