MY FAIR LADY EXTENDS TO 21st DEC 02

The musical My Fair Lady, has been extended by 4 months at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane Theatre. It is now taking bookings to 21st Dec 2002. (The show was originally only booking to Aug 02)

This production opened at the Royal National Theatre in March last year to superb reviews from the popular press: SHERIDAN MORLEY for TELETEXT says the show is "sharp and sturdy".He goes on to say, "Matthew Bourne's choreography is brilliant.."; BENEDICT NIGHTINGALE for THE TIMES says, "A success to rival the National's Oklahoma!"; ROBERT GORE-LANGTON for THE DAILY EXPRESS says, "It's effortlessly enjoyable."

The show transferred to the West End in July last year.

The show has been nominated for 8 Olivier Awards, 'Oustanding Musical Production', 'Best Actor in a Musical', ''Best Actress in a Musical', 'Best Supporting Actor in a Musical', 'Best Choreographer', 'Best Designer', 'Best Costume' and 'Best Lighting'.

The current cast is : Joanna Riding (Eliza Doolittle) (Alexandra Jay plays the role on Mon eves & Wed Mats) , Jonathan Pryce (Henry Higgins : NOTE: Alex Jennings takes over the part from 22nd Apr 02), Dennis Waterman (Alfred P Doolittle), Nicholas Le Prevost (Colonel Pickering ) , Mark Umbers (Freddie Eynsford-Hill ), Caroline Blakison (Mrs. Higgins ), Valerie Cutko (Queen of Transylvania ),Terry Kelly (Harry ), Jill Martin (Mrs. Eynsford-Hill ), John Stacey (Jamie ), Sevan Stephan (Zoltan Karpathy ), Patsy Rowlands (Mrs. Pearce ) and Ann Emery (Mrs. Hopkins ).

"My Fair Lady" has music by Frederick Loewe, book & lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner based on "Pygmalion" by Bernard Shaw.

It is directed by Trevor Nunn, designed by Anthony Ward with lighting by David Hersey and choreography by Matthew Bourne.

The story concerns Henry Higgins, an opinionated linguistics professor and confirmed bachelor, who makes a wager with a colleague that within six months he can transform a cockney flower seller, Eliza Doolittle, into a lady who can take her place in high society. He wins the bet, but doesn't bargain for the profound effect she has on his life.
