New season announced at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre for 2018
Artistic director Timothy Sheader has today announced the 2018 season at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre.
The season begins in May with a revival of Sheader and Liam Steel's Olivier Award-nominated production of Peter Pan. The production retells JM Barrie's story in a World War One medical shelter, and when it first ran at the theatre in 2015, LondonTheatre.co.uk gave the show a five star review. It will run from 17th May to 15th June.
Sheader will also direct The Turn of the Screw for a week long-run in June in a co-production with English National Opera. Benjamin Britten's adaptation of Henry James will be performed by members of the ENO orchestra, conducted by ENO Mackerras Fellow Toby Purser. It runs from 22nd June to 30th June.
In July, Max Webster will direct William Shakespeare's As You Like It, featuring original music from his The Lorax collaborator Charlie Fink. Webster directed the Bard's Twelfth Night at the theatre in 2014, and will work with designer Naomi Dawson (Dr Faustus), movement director Polly Bennett, lighting designer Lee Curran (Jesus Christ Superstar) and sound designer Gareth Fry on the production which runs from 6th to 28th July.
Over the summer holidays, a new 50-minute interactive daytime show exploring the unchartered territories of the dinosaurs will play daytime performances. Written and directed by Derek Bond, Dinosaur World Live is a family show suitable for ages 3+, and invites the audience to join an intrepid explorer to discover a pre-historic world. The production is also set to announce tour dates.
The season concludes with a production of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken's musical Little Shop of Horrors. Directed by Maris Aberg (Dr Faustus), the musical tells the story of flower shop assistant Seymour who discovers a new plant with 'killer potential'. With designs by Tom Scutt and musical supervision by Tom Deering (both Jesus Christ Superstar), it runs from 3rd August to 15th September.
Casting for all productions is yet to be announced.
