Of Mice and Men transfers to Old Vic Theatre 3 Feb 2004


John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, which closed at the Savoy Theatre early this month, will transfer to the Old Vic Theatre on 3 Feb 04, booking to 3 April 04.

Matthew Kelly & George Costigan are expected to transfer with the show.

The play received terrific notices from the popular press when it opened at the Savoy Theatre in October 2003: RACHEL HALLIBURTON for THE EVENING STANDARD says Matthew Kelly "gives poignant performance in Steinbeck classic". MICHAEL BILLINGTON for THE GUARDIAN says, "Fine production." BENEDICT NIGHTINGALE for THE TIMES says, "Good production."

The Birmingham Repertory Theatre's production is directed by Jonathan Church, designed by Simon Higlett, with lighting by Tim Mitchell.

The play is set against the backdrop of America's Great Depression, George and Lennie are determined to buy a small farm of their own after years of ekeing out a living as itinerant farm workers. The two friends soon discover the flip side of their American Dream and the friendship is tested to its limits.
